SUMMARY:AI Enhanced Variable Speed Drives: From Motor Controllers to Intell
 igent Systems
DESCRIPTION:Time: Thursday\, 23rd April\, 16:30 – 18:00\nPlace: Alsion\,
U106 (go to the main entrance\, turn right and walk for about 50m\, the ro
 om is on your right)\nSign-up: Sunday\, 19th April\, 23:59\n\nSandwiches w
ill be served\, if you have special dietary needs then you can order a chi
cken or vegetarian sandwich by sending an email to Krzysztof (krzys@mmmi.s
du.dk)\n\nDescription\n\nThis talk explores how Artificial Intelligence is
transforming Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) from traditional motor controll
ers into intelligent\, adaptive systems. We will examine how modern drives
increasingly operate as distributed data processors\, leveraging AI acros
s cloud\, fog\, and edge layers to enhance performance and reliability. Th
e presentation highlights several practical AI applications already shapin
g the next generation of VSDs\, including motor nameplate detection using
image recognition\, embedded condition monitoring for predictive maintenan
ce\, lifetime prediction of drive components\, and the use of reinforcemen
t learning to optimize motor control and energy efficiency. Finally\, we l
ook ahead to the emerging paradigm of self-learning\, autonomous drive sys
tems capable of continuous adaptation without human intervention. The goal
is to provide a concrete and realistic view of how AI is unlocking new ca
pabilities in VSDs\, improving energy savings\, maintenance practices\, an
 d overall user experience.\n\nSpeaker\n\nNorbert Hanigovszki is Director\,
at Danfoss Power Electronics\, based in Gråsten\, Denmark. He leads tech
nology development within the Danfoss Drives Gråsten organization\, with
a focus on power electronics\, motor control\, predictive maintenance\, an
d AI/ML. Norbert Hanigovszki holds a Ph.D. from Aalborg University and is
 a senior member of IEEE.\n\n&nbsp\;
